Additional NDT Services

Complete & Complementary
Services

Working with the fewest set of contractors reduces logistical headaches and streamlines communications when it comes to inspections. Gecko Robotics compliments its robotic ultrasonic capabilities with traditional NDT capabilities giving clients a full range of options to achieve their inspection goals.

These services are conducted during the same mobilization and under the watchful eye of the same supervisor. This provides the highest scope completion and ensures that measurements adhere to the same rigorous standards for accuracy.

API

Certified Inspectors for API 510, 570, and 653

VT

Three types - human visual, remote crawler, and remote drone

UT

Combines both straight beam UT and PAUT to achieve scope on complex geometries

PT

400x magnification on surface cracks and defects

MT

Quick and inexpensive method to identify and locate surface and near-surface defects

MI

Robot-enabled, wide-area coating thickness measurements. Accuracy <3% of nominal

API 510, 570, and 653

Gecko maintains an in-house team of certified API inspectors. Whether operating stand-alone or in conjunction with another Gecko service, the API inspectors review the inspection plan of the asset and collect necessary data to complete their report.

Visual (VT) and Remote Visual Inspections (RVI)

Gecko offers three types of visual inspections: (1) human visual inspection satisfying all applicable codes (2) crawler-based remote visual inspections, and (3) drone-based remote visual inspections. The high-definition and lighting associated with remote visuals are often sufficient on assets where human entry is not possible or extensive scaffolding would be needed.

Handheld UT/PAUT (UT)

As a complement to our robotic UT services, Gecko uses handheld measurements to complete the scope. This is often the case around elbows and other complex geometries not perfectly suited to robots. Our teams are also trained in PAUT techniques to further diagnose damage mechanisms.

Liquid/Dye Penetrants (PT)

This form of NDT is well-suited to find surface cracks on both ferrous and non-ferrous metals, alike. Fluorescent dyes penetrate into surface cracks making the defect visible to the human-eye-equivalent to a 400X magnification. This is a quick and cost effective solution for known susceptible areas or localization on areas that were identified by other NDE techniques.

Magnetic Particle (MT)

This technique is similar to Liquid/Dye Penetrant, except the dye is replaced with magnetic particles that trap in cracks when a transverse magnetic field is applied to the area of interest. The advantage of MT over PT is this technique can detect near-surface flaws that have not broken through.

Magnetic Induction (MI)

This service measures the thickness of coatings and treatments on ferrous assets to gauge their performance. Unique to Gecko, this service is enabled robotically to provide large area scans using our TOKA platform robots. This technique is extremely useful to measure metal spray overlay or epoxy coatings that abate corrosion/erosion on ferrous surfaces.

Combining Inspection Methods for a More Comprehensive Result

Gecko offers the newest NDT technology alongside traditional methods and delivers the most comprehensive inspection that stays true to the asset under inspection. We take full accountability for each technique deployed and provide an integrated report to save you time and money.
