Rapid Ultrasonic Gridding (RUG) Inspections

Full Asset Coverage, Fast

Rapid Ultrasonic Gridding, or RUG, inspections are robot-enabled ultrasonic inspections that produce thickness grid maps to identify areas where corrosion and other damage mechanisms have caused wall-thinning.

Gecko’s fastest robotic service is designed to cover an entire asset in as little as one shift. RUG is a replacement for traditional hand-held gridding with variable grid sizes from 12” x 12” to 1” x 1” (0.3 x 0.3m to 25 x 25mm). It is suitable for any ferritic surface with temperatures up to 120° F (48° C). Typical RUG inspections collect 1,000x more data at 10x faster inspection times.

Data

Each sensor takes 50 readings per foot, which enables you to catch small but potentially dangerous areas or concerns.

Speed

The TOKA series can travel up to 30 ft/minute (9 m/minute), greatly shortening inspection time.

Safety

Robotic tools take away the need for humans to enter confined spaces or work at dangerous elevations.

Versatility

The TOKA series models can inspect a wide range of assets: boilers, tanks, piping, pressure vessels, and more.

Coverage

Variable grid sizes from 12"x12" to 1"x1" (0.3 x 0.3m to 25 x 25mm).

Visual Inspection

Along with thickness readings, our robots provide complete visual coverage of the asset with thousands of HD images.

RUG in Collaboration with API 653

RUG can be applied across many different asset types, including boilers, pressure vessels, and digesters, but Gecko has developed a TOKA system that is specifically suited for tanks and API 653 inspections.
